The Green Movement has hit the technology world. Find out what products have "Go Green" options that take less electricity and resources.
Green networking devices have not made it big in the Information Technology (IT) world, but large manufacturers have already started creating energy-efficient networking devices. Environmentally friendly computers and other electronics are slowly becoming available for end-users and corporations that want to use environmentally friendly devices.
Here are some networking and other IT equipment that are a part of the Go Green movement.

Cisco Environmentally Friendly Technology

Cisco is one of the leading brands for networking technology. Cisco originally manufactured enterprise routing solutions, but it purchased Linksys, which manufacturers home routers and wireless routers. Cisco has a goal to create green networking devices that consume fewer resources, comply with industry standards, and create devices that minimize the amount of environmental impact.

Green Data Centers and Cloud Computing

Cloud computing is a technology that lets any company, bit or small, use the networking resources of a remote, Internet connected data center. The “cloud” is the term used for the Internet. A company can use a data center and rent the resources for a small monthly fee. This type of networking reduces costs for utilities, and lowers expenses for networking equipment.
The downside of cloud computing is that your company’s security is reduced. Cloud computing puts all your user names and passwords in the hands of another company, including your sensitive data. Cloud computing is a good option for new companies, but as the network grows, it’s better for a medium-large company to keep data in-house.

Recycling Computer Equipment

Many colleges and other outlets have a computer recycling center. The computer equipment is recycled instead of trashing it at the local dumpster. This is an environmentally friendly way to throw away computer equipment when you want to replace networking equipment with newer devices. If you can still use a part in a computer, use it in a new computer instead of throwing it away in the trash.

Eco Friendly Computer Stores

Some eco friendly computer stores let you purchase the latest green movement environmentally friendly networking devices. For instance, Penn State has an eco friendly computer store that lets you purchase the latest networking equipment that is environmentally friendly without costing too much money. The Penn State store has printers, routers, monitors, desktop computers, laptops and other networking devices for a business or a home network.
These few ideas help keep production costs low for a company, and the ideas provide ways to stay eco friendly when you must purchase network equipment.
